  1. It was a requirement of the Old Law (Judaism), but Jesus died to fulfill that law and books such as Romans and Galatians heavily emphasize that we “the new Israel” are not physically circumcised but have a circumcision of the heart. The Muslim and Jewish faith don’t believe that Jesus was the Christ and therefore do not follow the New Law and consequently still practice circumcision.

  2. In the earliest days of Christianity, you know, it was seen as an offshoot of Judaism. But with the teachings of the Apostle Paul and the acceptance of Gentile converts, there was a movement at first — the Judaizers — that insisted that Christians should continue to observe Jewish tradition and Law (among other things, to be circumcised). Paul, although a Jew, strongly rejected this. His Epistle to the Galatians was written specifically against the Judaizers and talks about circumcision a good bit; might help you answer your question. It’s one of the more important letters to Protestant theology, incidentslly; they interpret his emphasis on faith over the works of the (Jewish) Law as a statement that faith alone is enough.
